The Arlington City Council has approved a $273 million plan for AT&T Stadium upgrades, extending the Dallas Cowboys’ lease through 2055. The decision, made during a recent council meeting, involves using existing voter-approved venue taxes to fund the improvements.
Under the agreement, the Cowboys will initially cover the upgrade costs. The city will reimburse the team with $50 million in 2028, followed by annual payments of $20 million through 2048. This financial arrangement aims to modernize the stadium and ensure the Cowboys remain in Arlington for the foreseeable future.
While the plan received majority support, some residents expressed concerns about the financial commitment and called for a public referendum. Mayor Jim Ross emphasized that the funding comes from previously approved taxes and aligns with voters’ past decisions.
These upgrades are expected to enhance the stadium’s facilities, benefiting both the team and the community by attracting more events and visitors to Arlington.
